The Lost City Museum Docent Council was formed in 1981 with the purpose of providing service to The Lost City Museum. Docents are the backbone of the museum and help out in many exciting areas. Opportunities are available at the admissions desk, leading school tours, assisting in collections or with special events.

This is a great opportunity to give back to the museum in a fun and interesting environment.

We will work with your schedule and many different shifts are available. If you’re interested in giving the gift of your time please fill out a docent application and bring it to the museum or contact us at

Call for artists- Second Annual Hot & Dusty Fine Art Show at Lost City Museum

The Docent Council of the Lost City Museum seeks submissions for its second annual Hot & Dusty Fine Art Show this August 2020. This year, ten artists will be selected from emailed applications. This years’ theme is the beauty of Southern Nevada. Living artists who have a connection to southern Nevada are encouraged to apply. This means that they were born, raised, attended school, resided, worked or possess another tangible and easily understood connection to the area. All artwork must be wired and be a maximum of 4 x 6 feet. Artists are required to insure their submitted artwork for the duration of the show. Applications are due by midnight May 15, 2020. Visit for more information.

All submissions are eligible for three awards: People’s Choice, Artist’s Choice and Docent Choice. The People’s Choice will allow museum patrons to vote on their favorite piece. Artists’ Choice will judge each other for technique and artistic ability. The Docents’ Choice will be awarded to the piece that best speaks to the mission of the Lost City Museum. Winners will receive certificates and be announced at an evening reception on August 28, 2020.
