Lost City Museum to display Moapa Art Guild’s works

OVERTON, Nevada – The Lost City Museum will be featuring the artwork of the venerable Moapa Valley Art Guild in March and April.

The show includes oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics, colored pencil, pastels and drawings along with gourds, sculptures, stained glass, jewelry and felted characters, all created by local artists who call Moapa Valley home.

The Moapa Valley Art Guild was formed in 1958 by Max Bunnell, the art teacher at Moapa Valley High School. Now 93, Bunnell is still living and still painting. He often goes out into nature with a friend to paint the surrounding scenery.

Interest in the arts from the surrounding community was instrumental in creating and sustaining the art guild. The group now holds numerous exhibits and events throughout the year, including fundraisers to finance art scholarships for Moapa High students. It also puts on the annual Pomegranate Festival in Logandale each year.

The Lost City Museum actively engages people in understanding and celebrating Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage. One of seven museums managed by the Nevada Division of Museums and History, an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, it is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily at 721 S. Moapa Valley Blvd., Overton. Admission is $5, children 17 and younger and members enter free. Take Interstate 15 north to exit 93. Access is also available from Lake Mead National Recreation Area or the Valley of Fire State Park. For more information, call the museum at (702) 397-2193 or visit Facebook.
